New Media is My SEAL

This is my last post here, friends.  Find me from now on at my new gig.

I stated reading The Heart and The Fist at the strong urging or my mother. Jan is a big fan of Veterans and an even bigger fan of the Today Show. The author, Eric Greitens was on the Today Show and my mom just knew that I would love a good book about one of my favorite subjects – Vets.

Happy Labor Day! {Almost}

As Labor Day fast approaches, I thought it would be appropriate to take a minute to thank 2 very important people, with whom I labor every day, like even weekends.  Ms. R and PLL.  My colleague and my boss.

This is where I’d normally insert a picture but I don’t have one of them together.

Lame.

I’m Bad at What?

My new supervisor is kind of a big deal.  As part of this position, and as part of my internship, my colleague and I are expected to do a lot of development and growth exercises while we work in our cool positions.

These exercises have come in the form of really rad assignments, where we interact with really important people and provide support with some mega solutions for our organization.  Schedule and take notes at meetings, think through problems, offer our opinions and become better employees and people.  The assignments I really like are the white papers.  I like to write.  I have done two assignments with a written product.  After the second assignment my supervisor came to me with black, white and red piece of paper.

You need to improve your writing.

Wait what?

If You Play With Matches You’re Gonna Get Burned: Part 2

HC in particular loved the drama.  Here’s part 2 of Dr. S’s match day story…

Finally:  MATCH DAY Thursday was here.  The months of anxiety and wondering about the uncertainty of the future would soon be over and cured by the receipt of a simple piece of paper.  My classmates and I started the day with mimosas and bloody mary’s in the student lounge as we all gathered and started to celebrate the day rather than fear its arrival.

Career Exploration and Real Life

I’m not, again, going to lament how much I’ve missed blogging and in turn all of you.  I am going to say one thing and then we’re moving on.

HI!

Ok, glad we got that out of the way.

If You Play With Matches You’re Gonna Get Burned: Part 1

Editor’s note:  This two part series is brought to you by none other than the talented and fabulous Dr. S.  Many of you will remember Dr. S from our wedding, as one of MB’s oldest and dearest friends.  Dr. S is graduating from The University of Pennsylvania Medical School in a month {!!} and has an interesting story about the tortuous thing they do to medical students, when they are just about to see the light at the end of the tunnel:  Match Day.  Enjoy!

Before starting medical school, I had heard rumors of some bizarre holiday within the medical student community called “Match Day.”  Unlike other traditional holidays, we wouldn’t sing festive songs, eat chocolate or gather around a tree or menorah.  Instead our families and loved one would gather ‘round “The Envelope”—the almighty No. 10 sized receptacle of every fourth year medical students future.  And on March 18th, 2010—the medical student receiving her envelope was me.

{EEEEEK!}

Winging It

As part of my professional and personal development, it was strongly suggested that I step outside my comfort zone and do something that would require me to be patient, trusting and acquiescent of the spotlight.  The suggestion that followed resulted in a lot of scoffing and stomping my feet.  But I eventually went with it.  I took myself to the Washington Improv Theater‘s free improv workshop.  I was greeted with tiny chairs.

Already hilarious.

“I Can Wait on an Elevator”

I work at a cabinet level agency, meaning, without sounding like a jerk, we’re a pretty big deal.  I mean really, President Obama picked my boss’ boss’ boss’ boss himself.  And they’re friends.  Like have lunch friends.  The secretary under which I operate is in short a huge deal.
